Giving back to our community has always defined us, and we're proud to have been doing it for many years.

After 4 years of running an annual solar giveaway competition and helping Kiwi families all over New Zealand, we’re ready to take things a step further, creating more opportunities for people in need to access solar power and achieve true energy independence, right when it matters most.

That’s why we created the Gift of Freedom Program: an ongoing initiative where we’ll donate a complete off-grid solar kit to a family or community project in genuine need. The best part? You can apply or nominate someone at any time of the year.

So, instead of being a competition, this program is about making a real difference, bringing light, warmth, and freedom to those who might not otherwise have the means to go off-grid.

Our previous winners

Leah.png

Leah (2021)

When we met with Leah, she had been living off-grid in New Zealand for over 15 months with no power and no running water after returning to the whenua. In her words, Leah and her husband went grid-free because they "wanted to live freely, be self-sufficient, and to provide" for their whānau.

Leah described winning the kit as "life-changing", and we're overjoyed to be able to give them the power they need to live off-grid.

Rob (2022)

Rob's story really inspired us. His mission was to breathe life back into the neglected whenua, walk in the footsteps of their grandparents, and restore their whānau's forever home.

"Winning this solar kit, it's changed my life already," says Rob. "It's brought a smile to my face, to my wife's face. We get that simple thing back."

Sarah & Tim (2023)

Sarah & Tim, and their two lovely girls were the 2023 recipients of a brand new GridFree solar power system.

Up until then, Sarah and her family had been living with very limited power in their tiny house. Now they can have those simple things back, such as a washing machine and running a freezer.

Kayla and Paula (2024)

We we’re thrilled to help this incredible off-grid family in Tokomaru Bay. In just two years, they’ve transformed their papakāīnga from a bare paddock into a thriving slice of paradise.

It’s now a nurturing place for their four children to learn life-changing skills: growing kai, processing home-kill, diving, swimming, money management, design, and more.
