From Off-Grid Shed to a More Usable Space: Brian & Anita’s Solar Story

Solano Esteche

After installing their Kea Solar Nest and a Hercules Generator, the couple now have lighting and power sockets throughout the shed, turning it into a much more usable space.

“The system’s up and running and, as we expected, helped turn our off-grid shed into a useable space,” Brian explains.

And this is just the beginning.

Over the coming weeks, Brian and Anita plan to extend the power supply to their cabin, allowing them to run household appliances and make the space even more comfortable. They also plan to use their solar setup to help power a water pump, supplying water to a shower in the cabin and an outdoor summer shower.

A straightforward installation with a little help from sparkies friends

One of the advantages of their setup was how quickly they were able to get everything installed.

With a little help from a friend who is an electrician and another friend, Brian and Anita had the system installed in just one day.

They did encounter an initial configuration issue with the unit, but GridFree’s support team was able to resolve it remotely, with Brian providing access to the system over their Starlink connection.

Room to grow as their needs change

For now, Brian and Anita are happy with how their system is working. They have the essentials sorted and a clear plan for making even more use of their property.

When the budget allows, they would like to add another battery to increase their storage capacity. In the meantime, they can enjoy the benefits of having power in their shed while working towards their next projects.

Their story is a great example of taking an achievable first step towards off-grid living, with the flexibility to build on the system as needs and budgets evolve.
